Double-decker flyover proposed on Paud Road to ease traffic congestion
Pune: The Maha Metro and PMC are working on a proposal to construct a flyover on the Paud Road stretch between Kothrud garbage depot and the Bhusari Colony area to ease chronic traffic congestion.
This flyover is likely to be a double-decker facility as a Metro line has already been proposed from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk. Officials said the flyover for vehicles will probably be constructed below the Metro's viaduct.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has submitted a proposal for the same to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for further consideration.
The estimated cost of the project will be around Rs80 crore. Civic officials said they will study the Maha Metro's flyover plan to check on feasibility, the landing of ramps, and other details of the project.
For daily commuters on the stretch, the flyover will help reduce travel time as it will eliminate halting at four chowks on the route. Commuters, however, said that both PMC and Maha Metro should make adequate provisions on both ends of the new facility to avoid traffic chaos and bottlenecks.
Regular commuter Akshay Shirke told TOI, "Traffic on Paud Road has increased significantly in the last few years. Maximum commuters from areas of Pirangut, Mulshi Road and Mumbai bypass enter the city from Paud Road via Chandni Chowk."
A Paud Road resident, Vinayak Joshi, said, "The proposal to extend Metro from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk has still not moved ahead. We have been waiting for the last four years for this extension to happen. Now, the authorities have come up with a proposal for a flyover. Citizens want the authorities to fix timelines or deadlines to commission and complete such projects."
The extension proposal is now awaiting Centre's nod. Sources from state govt told TOI that the proposal is in the last stages of approval, which can be expected anytime soon. Civic officials added that the plan for flyover construction will be finalised thereafter alongside Maha Metro.
